100,000 ILLEGAL MIGRANTS DEPORTED FROM RUSSIA DURING 3 QUARTERS IN 2006 

 MOSCOW/06.01.07/TURAN: During 9 months, 2006 15,000 Uzbeks, 15,000 Tajiks, 5,000 Georgians, 5,000  Kurgiz and 5,000 Azerbaijanis were deported from Russia. A total of 100,000 people have been deported during this  period, Constantine Romodanovskii, Director of Russian Migration Service, said in his interview to Echo of  Moscow radio.  

The new law on illegal migrants enters into force in Russia from January 15, 2007. The law toughens conditions of  foreign residents' residence in Russia. At present several million illegal migrants live in Russia and all they could be  deported.-

 

ELMAR HUSEYNOV'S WIDOW GRANTED POLITICAL ASYLUM IN NORWAY

18 YEARS PASSED SINCE LAST DEPORTATION OF AZERBAIJANIS FROM ARMENIA

BAKU/09.12.06/TURAN: These days the republic marks the 18th anniversary of the last deportation of  Azerbaijanis from the territory of Armenia. Deportation started in spring 1988. In early December of the  same year the deportation process has acquired a mass character and ended with the complete expulsion  of Azerbaijanis from Armenia.mes.

BAKU/08.12.06/TURAN: 6,500 Azerbaijani citizens were refused political asylum in Germany Germany's Ambassador to Azerbaijan Per Stankin told journalists.

This is a large figure for such a small country like Azerbaijan, the ambassador said.  In an  investigation into the situation it was revealed that most of these people were actually Armenian by  nationality.

emigrant arrested in Holland

The Dutch police have arrested one of the Azerbaijani National Liberation Movement Elman Mustafazade, who has lived in Europe for a long time. As Chairman of the World Union of Political Emigrants from Azerbaijan (Holland) Eldaniz Yusibov said, the police officers have informed Mustafazade about unlawfulness of his staying in Holland after inspection of documents, a REGNUM correspondent informs.

Mustafazade has lived in a special territory designated by the Netherlands' government for refugees since 2000. Only persons who seek political asylum in the Netherlands have the right to live there.

According to Yusibov, at present moment, the court examines documents - appeals by Mustafazade to the Dutch government for political asylum. Yusibov noted that in case of pronouncing him guilty Mustafazade can be extradited to Poland, citizen of which he is, or to Azerbaijan.
